La Europa Academy is a clinically sophisticated, 36-bed, a fine arts-based residential treatment center that specializes in using the arts to help girls ages 13-17 heal and work through the emotional pain. La Europa blends the best of traditional treatment (DBT, specialized groups, small caseloads, outstanding family systems work, etc.) with a focus on the arts (dance, photography, ceramics, watercolors, choir, piano, yoga, guitar, etc.) that allows us to build on our girl’s strengths.
More significantly, both educators and therapists are trained to use the arts to help girls access and release pain, which they do in powerful and creative ways. A world class educational team provides an outstanding academic experience. La Europa’s urban location provides a sense that girls are truly a part of the community.
Clinically Sophisticated Treatment
Our residential treatment program at La Europa includes three core components of treatment used to help each student heal. With a combination of insight-oriented therapeutic approaches, excessive therapies and behavioral and family systems therapy to help students overcome challenging issues.
Clinical services at our residential treatment program are structured around two main philosophies of change:
The Core Issue Model
Part of what keeps people stuck in repetitive, destructive behaviors is deeply internalized, negative beliefs about themselves. These beliefs are the result of the patient’s interpretation of external experiences. The Core Issue Model helps students identify triggers that lead to ineffective coping methods. Patients will learn how thoughts and feelings work together to create behavior.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) was developed in the late 1980s to help treat borderline personality disorder. Since DBT’s development, it’s also been used for treating other mental health disorders. DBT treatment is a cognitive-behavioral approach that emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of treatment. The theory behind this treatment is that some people are prone to react in an intense, out-of-the-ordinary manner toward certain emotional situations.
If you think your daughter could benefit from our residential treatment programs at La Europa Academy, you can call us or email the admissions director. There’s also an online pre-evaluation you can fill out to assess your daughter’s behavior.
